Why an independent, privacy‑first, digitally sovereign ecosystem?

SubTraKtion runs his daily workflow on an EU‑based, open‑source stack (where possible) because he wants his data under his own control. Big‑tech services track EVERYTHING, filter it with opaque algorithms, and store it in data centers outside European jurisdiction—making personal information vulnerable to advertisers, governments, or unseen manipulation.

By using decentralized tools—the Fediverse, privacy‑first cloud services, and open‑source DAWs—he sidesteps those surveillance layers. His music files, messages, and contacts stay encrypted and protected by EU law, and no corporation can arbitrarily shut him out or change the rules.

He stopped oversharing on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter (X) in 2018 and hasn’t missed the endless notifications or the pressure to chase likes. Now he can focus on creating music and connecting with listeners who choose to follow him on their own terms. In short, his data is his data, and he decides how it’s used.

The Full Stack

SubTraKtion’s daily driver is a FairPhone 6 running /e/OS (a privacy‑focused, de‑googled Android fork) paired with the Vivaldi browser for a lightweight, tracker‑ and ad‑free web experience.

He stays in touch via Signal (with SimpleX as a backup) and conducts all searches on Qwant instead of Google. For everything else—email, calendar, VPN, cloud storage, password management, two‑factor authentication, AI assistance, and even a Bitcoin wallet—SubTraKtion relies on Proton’s Swiss‑based suite.

Notes live in Standard Notes, music streams through Deezer, maps are powered by HERE WeGo, and his web presence is hosted on Infomaniak. He keeps an older 2009 MacBook Pro running MX Linux as a testbed for open‑source tinkering.

On the music side, a 2025 MacBook Pro runs macOS Tahoe, driving a Pioneer XDJ‑RX3 controller with Rekordbox (soon to be switched to the open‑source Mixxx). Production happens in Bitwig Studio, and podcast episodes are published via Podigee.
